Product Pricing Calculator

Find the price to charge so that, after percentage fees such as marketplace commission and payment processing, you keep your target margin. Simply adding a markup to cost often falls short once fees are taken from the selling price.

Step-by-step working
  1. Costs to cover = $12.00 + $4.00 + $1.00 + $0.30 fixed fees = $17.30
  2. Share of the price left after fees and margin = 1 − 15% − 30% = 0.55
  3. Price = $17.30 ÷ 0.55 = $31.45

Round the result to a price point that suits your market, such as 31.99.

How to use the Product Pricing Calculator

  1. Enter your product, shipping and packaging costs.
  2. Enter the percentage fees taken from the selling price and any fixed fee per order.
  3. Set your target margin and press Calculate.

Formula

Price = (product cost + shipping + other costs + fixed fees) ÷ (1 − fee % − margin %)

Margin here means profit as a share of the selling price.

Examples

  • Cost 12 + shipping 4 + packaging 1 + 0.30 fixed fee, 15% fees, 30% margin: 17.30 ÷ 0.55 = 31.45. Profit 9.44 per sale.

Frequently asked questions

Why not just double the cost?

Doubling cost gives a 50% markup-based margin only before fees and shipping. Once a marketplace takes 15% of the price, the margin left can be much lower.

What margin should I aim for?

It depends on your category and how much you spend on advertising. Many sellers aim for enough margin to fund ads and returns and still leave profit.
